Masks.
Masks is the title of a series of photographic portraits taken in the 80’s by Alberto Schommer of Contemporary Spanish intellectuals. Each one of the front portraits corresponds to the same typology whose precedent goes back to sculpted forms of the important figures of classic antiquity. The series Masks was shown in the Prado Museum in a special context, faced with a selection of portraits of their collections painted by Spanish artists.

Schommer. Retrospective 1952-2009.
The exhibition reviewed the figure and the long career of Alberto Schommer as one of the most distinguished photographers of the Spanish creative panorama of the last decades. Between more than the hundred pieces of work which were selected for this great retrospective there were vintages and modern copies from an early-period, photos of diverse series such as Black landscapes, Masks or Cascographies. The exhibition was divided into three sections –Early-period, Landscapes and urban scenes, and Experimentation and staging – and was commissioned by Alejandro Castellote, photography theorist and expert on Schommer’s work.
Schommer. The living Museum.
It was the second photographic exhibition held in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. It offered an ensemble of twenty pieces of work carried out by Alberto Schommer in the lounges in the Villahermosa palace. The images made in black and white contained the personal vision of the artist about the people who visit the museum and about the artwork it accommodated.
Four directorates. Contemporary spanish photography.
This exhibition had a double aim. On one hand it presented a tour of the names which made up history and the Spanish photographic practice and on the other, it had the desire to make up the first step for the creation of a documentary base which could be used in the future in order to extend his study and knowledge.
Alberto Schommer: portraits 1969-1989.
In 1989 the Fine Arts circle of Madrid organized an exhibition of his portraits, which, a year later, was transferred to the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris. Through the 70 private portraits of Contemporary Spanish personalities, he portrayed the surrealistic Iberian reality. In black and white or in colour, the Spain exhibited by Schommer in the Parisian cultural trend setting space represented one of the most amazing countries of Europe.
